Departments

Our efforts for the community are directed through our four departments: The Education/Conservation, Art, Home Life, and Public/International Affairs.

The Education/Conservation Department directs its efforts in the community in many ways. They strive to improve education through community awareness and leadership and the public awareness of the adage: "reduce, reuse, and recycle". Some of the ongoing projects are:

  1. Sponsoring the Angela Gregory Scholarship
  2. Volunteering time at the Public Library
  3. Promoting literacy by providing summer reading lists for member's children
  4. Adopt-A-Spot at Nelson Park
  5. Supporting the city-wide recycling program

The Art Department supports the "Arts" in our community. Projects include:

  1. Sponsoring the Cultural Arts Grant (CAPS), which promotes the arts in local elementary schools.
  2. Awarding the Suzanne Weatherholt Fine Arts Scholarship to a local student majoring in the Arts.
  3. Promoting cultural arts in local schools.
All club members are encouraged to participate in the annual Virginia Federation of Women's Clubs' Arts and Crafts Contest. Our club consistently has blue ribbon winners compete on the district and state levels.

The Home Life Department has a multitude of interests. They include:
  1. The preservation of family and home management
  2. Consumer concerns and public awareness
  3. Support of physical and mental health programs, such as : SERVE, Hospice, Free Clinic, March of Dimes, and the American Heart Association.

The department helps the community by providing Meals on Wheels delivery, sponsoring a needy family at Christmas, the Shoe Fund for needy children, and providing for the purchase of prescriptions for the needy.
