The First Holiday Concert - December 1996
The Prince William Community Band was formed in June 1996 and is non-profit, tax-exempt corporation dedicated to providing the people of Prince William County and its surrounding communities the opportunity to perform, or enjoy as audience members, the exciting world of concert band music.
The Prince William Community Band held its first rehearsal on 28 June 1996 at the A.J. Ferlazzo Building on Cardinal Drive in Woodbridge. The first performance was on 11 August 1996 at the Locust Shade Park amphitheater. Since then, the band has performed numerous times. Performances include the Manassas Fall Jubilee, Old Bridge Christmas Parade, Manassas Museum Holiday Concert, Occoquan Summer Concert Series, and at nursing homes within Prince William County.
The Prince William Community Band fosters music education in area schools while enhancing community appreciation of the unique concert band sound and literature. Community musicians ranging from active and retired professional musicians, educators, and skilled amateurs who have not played since high school or college provide free quality performances. These people show that music education is a vital and important part of the education process. Even if a student does not go on to be a professional musician, through community bands they can better themselves and the community through their talents.
For audiences of all ages, the Prince William Community Band members share their love of the spine-tingling inspiration in brass, woodwind, and percussion instrumental music. From spirited marches to enduring melodies to thought-provoking compositions underscoring historical and contemporary life. This band music is truly for everyone.
