| Ministries at St. Matthew's
Ministry areas are defined with the committee that relates to that interest. Members may choose to be on any of the following committees. These committees support the worship and work of St. Matthew's. Worship - Worship and Music Committee Provides leadership in worship; coordinates music, reviews services, coordinates special services (Lent, etc.), supports Altar guild, ushers, acolytes, lectors, communion assistants, plans and provides decorations for Christmas and Easter. Learning - Christian Education Committee Coordinates Christian education opportunities; Sunday Church School, Day School, 1st communion, confirmation, youth activities, Men's and Women's programs, family programs, Bible studies, seminars, Advent and Lenten programs, staffing and support, library and audiovisuals. Witness - Evangelism Committee Welcomes visitors to St. Matthew's and encourages visitors to return and participate in church family. Promotes congregation in the community. Supports prayer chain, greeters, visitation, flocks, welcome and cookie ministry, new member orientation and sponsor program, information table, advertising, and the tri-annual Church Directory, among other responsibilities. Service - Social Ministry Committee Maintains liaisons with Social Agencies (i.e. ACTS, etc.); keeps current our awareness of community needs. Plans and supports Senior Citizen luncheons, Christmas program, provides for emergency needs, transportation, Homeless Shelter support, financial and volunteer support for social ministry projects. Support - Finance and Stewardship Committee Promotes Stewardship among the members, prepares budget, advises on financial issues and funds management, supervises financial secretary and treasurer, advises on insurance, conducts audit of church and day school, visits new members and introduces them to St. Matthew's Stewardship program. Mission Endowment Committee This committee is the custodian of the St. Matthew's Lutheran Church Mission Endowment Fund. This Fund has been established to support congregational and community projects that are consistent with the ongoing mission of the congregation and to support the ELCA through its outreach programs and Mission Investment Fund. Day School Committee Oversees the operation of the Day School. Makes financial decisions, prepares a budget advises the director on personnel issues and sets policies for the day school. Fellowship Committee Plans and supports social activities; picnic, Easter breakfast, Christmas reception, congregational activities for all ages. Property Committee Oversees maintenance, improvements, security, and use of property; landscaping, work days, decoration. Sunday Church School Teachers This group has an awesome weekly teaching responsibility for our children, youth, and adults through their spiritual development through biblical interpretation; understand church and bible doctrine; faith and humility; family life; and a wide range of subject matter which strengthens our Christian faith.
