Evaluation for Continued Membership

Our goal is to provide an atmosphere for learning and the enjoyment of singing to enable and encourage young singers to maintain their membership for the duration of their eligibility.  However, the practical nature of participation includes a variety of factors and the Director will evaluate members’ progress at various times throughout the year.  Evaluations will take place in a number of ways:

Rehearsal Attendance
Attendance is mandatory for all rehearsals.  WYC meets for a limited number of rehearsals in order to prepare for concerts, and it is vital that regular attendance be practiced.  Because all of our membership relies on adult transportation, it is imperative that parents be aware of their responsibility towards their students’ membership.  The attendance registrar must be contacted in order for an absence to be taken under consideration as excused.  If the Registrar cannot be reached, please contact a Board member.  If a singer misses a mandatory dress rehearsal prior to a concert, the singer will not be allowed to perform in the concert.  A third unexcused absence may result in a member being placed on probation or possible dismissal for the remainder of the season.

Performance and Concert Attendance
Because public performances are our only culminating venue for our efforts, attendance is expected and required.  If the singer ever thinks he/she will be unable to attend a performance, contact the Attendance Registrar (as above) as soon as possible before the performance.  This is the singer’s responsibility.   Unexcused absences may result in suspension from the group and/or making the student ineligible to return next season.

Attitude, Contribution, and Conduct
Rehearsal practices do not differ greatly from what is normally expected in a classroom situation.

  1. Be in your seat and ready to begin rehearsal at the appropriate time.
  2. Raise your hand to ask a question.  Please do not talk during rehearsal.
  3. No eating, drinking (except for water bottles), or chewing.
  4. Respect others and property.
  5. Along with your music folder, bring a pencil to all rehearsals. (NEVER mark music with a pen.)
